Veneers
Are you hiding your smile due to misshaped or chipped teeth? Do you have stubborn stains or gaps between some teeth? Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Ellicott City, MD, offers the application of veneers to cover any of those types of problems.
A veneer is a thin shell that is bonded to the front of a tooth. The veneer is color-matched to the surrounding teeth for a natural look and can restore the length, size, or shape of the tooth.
Dr. Kim can use veneers to improve the appearance of your smile. There are a couple of different kinds of veneers, and the best one for your needs will depend on the position of the tooth to be repaired and the patient’s budget.
One type of veneer is porcelain. Porcelain resists stains well and is easy to color-match to the natural tooth color. Porcelain veneers require less tooth enamel removal before bonding than it would need to place a cap or crown. A porcelain veneer is durable and long-lasting.
The second type of veneer is made of composite resin. Composite resin is also easy to color-match as well as requires less tooth enamel removal than when using caps or crowns. However, composite resin veneers are not as durable as ones made with porcelain. These veneers are vulnerable to chips and cracks, but they are not as expensive and easily fixed if they do break.
