Dental Bridges
Bridges are aptly named, as they “bridge” gaps in your teeth. If you are embarrassed about missing teeth in your smile, call Dr. Kim to discuss receiving a bridge. We can make your smile whole again.
A false tooth (or teeth) are attached to a bridge, and the bridge is attached to the remaining natural teeth. The false teeth are usually made of porcelain and color-matched to the rest of your teeth, although available in different materials, including gold.
There are four different methods of attaching a bridge in the mouth.
The Traditional method is the most popular and achieved by placing crowns on the two abutting teeth. The bridge is then bonded to the back of the crowns to hold it in place.
The Maryland method is more conservative and more economical, as it does not use crowns for the stabilization. The frame of the bridge is bonded directly onto the backs of the abutting natural teeth.
The Cantilever method utilizes a single crown to bond the bridge into place. This method requires only one natural abutting tooth.
The most durable method of attaching a bridge is the Implant-supported option. Two crowns are placed on two surgically placed implants, and the bridge is bonded to and suspended between the implants. Due to the need for surgery and healing time, this method takes months to complete.
